A Difficult Beginning

Life can challenge the smallest creatures in the harshest ways. Liberty, a tiny and fragile puppy, was a living testament to that. When she was found, she was struggling with severe demodectic mange, a skin condition caused by mites living in hair follicles. The disease often affects puppies with underdeveloped immune systems and, if untreated, can lead to prolonged pain and serious health issues.

Volunteers at Almost Home Animal Rescue discovered Liberty in a weak, shivering, and emaciated state. One volunteer immediately stepped forward to foster her, naming her Liberty because she was rescued on Independence Day (July 4th) — a symbol of freedom, hope, and new beginnings.

Medical Care and Recovery

Liberty’s recovery journey was long and challenging. She underwent nearly two years of careful treatment under the watchful eyes of dedicated volunteers. Her care included:

• Skin and coat care: Cleaning and treating affected areas, bandaging wounds, and using specialized medications to remove parasites.
